Board Meeting Minutes: August 12, 2026

Attending: Michelle Anderson, Larry Bond, Chuck Hayes, David Hoff,
Sharon Kerechanin, Ken Larson, Paul Mostyn, Mike Oliver, Michelle Sibbio

Absent: Rochelle Henderson, Marcia Martz, Mike Nickolich, Janet Stanley, Don Young

President: M.Oliver called the meeting to order at 12:15 p.m.

Secretary’s Report: M. Oliver, President, asked for acceptance of the June minutes.

● K. Larson so moved and C. Hayes accepted the June minutes as written and submitted.

Treasurer’s Report: L. Bond

● Business Checking: Balance $4000,14
● Non-Profit Checking: Balance $20,008.21
● Money Market Balance: $47,600.41

● Credit Card Items:

  1. 100 File Folders for 60+ Photo Name ID’s – $13.44
  2. Off-Site storage $127.00
  3. 5 Gift cards for Jr ROTC cadets at 60+ event – $100.00
  4. Laminating for 60+ food cards – $4.25
  5. 1 Storage container (Memorabilia) and 1 roll of tape – $17.29

● Credit Card Balance Due 7.14.26 – $261.98 transfer scheduled.

All accounts were reconciled successfully.

Final report on HOF – Cost – -$1483.37. L. Bond explained the deficit was for additional expenses that were incurred for the HOF Ceremony presentation.

● L. Bond reported that we received $5000 in donations at the 60+ Reunion

● Discussion occurred about the option of using a QR code on the website for donations L. Bond will work on it and report back to the board.

Communications: M.Oliver

● Posted 2025 Videos for the HO on the Akron East High Facebook page of the 2025 Hall of Fame Inductees. Directions are also on the Facebook page on how to see the video..
● L. Bond posted the flyer about the 2026 John Stanley Memorial Golf Outing.
● Posted the “Spirit Wins” for June 2026, for Michelle Sibbio on her contributions as the Chair for the 2026 Hall of Fame Ceremony.

Reverse Raffle: S,.Kerechanin

● S.Kerechanin announced the 2027 Reverse Raffle will be on Thursday, March 4, 2027 at Guy’s Party Center.
● The cost will be $40.00 for the dinner, but still reviewing menu options, such as, hot appetizers vs. a full-course dinner. A recommendation is to look at a solid food option with more substance.
● S. Kerechanin will negotiate with the Guy’s Party Center to see what can be offered to us with a reasonable and acceptable cost for dinner.

Scholarships: L. Bond for M. Bond

● L. Bond expressed Marsha Bond’s gratitude for all of the cards and prayers upon her brother, John’s death.
● To date, five (5) out of thirteen (13) awarded 2026 scholarships have followed through and checks have been mailed for $12,500. In addition, two (2) renewals of $1,000 each were also granted to former recipients in final year at Akron U.
● A total of $14,500 in scholarship money has been issued for 2026 to date from the Alumni Association out of $31,500.
● Winter Mason from Project Grad has contacted M. Bond to help follow-up with remaining recipients.
● M. Bond will reach out to East CLC for a meeting time with faculty to share scholarship expectations for 2027, with additional emphasis on awards for those students seeking further education within vocational trade schools.
● Principal Walter Noland is being moved to Firestone High School this fall.
● Larissa Brown has been appointed to be the Campus Principal for East CLC.

60+ Reunion: L. Bond for M. Bond

● A follow-up evaluation meeting was held on June 25,2026 at the Goodyear Branch Library. Observations and suggestions were made by the Committee and will be incorporated into next year’s planning of the 2027 60+ Reunion.
● The 2027 60+ Reunion will be held on Thursday, June 10, 2027 a Guy’s Party Center.
● Janet Palmer Lassiter from the class of 1963 has accepted the role as the event photographer for the 2027 60+ Reunion.
● 58 photos for classes of ‘51, ‘56, ‘61 and ‘66 were printed and mailed to those classmates in July.A 60+ Reunion.
● With the help of L. Bond, 40 letters of gratitude (approximately $5,000 was donated for scholarships as a result of the 60+ Reunion event this year.
● M. Anderson stated that a “Meet and Greet” is planned for local 1967 East High graduates for Wed. September 23, 20026 at The New Era Restaurant on Massillon Road in Akron.
● Forty- four (44) letters were sent to local 1967 graduates that we confirmed addresses through the alumni database and other public information. The purpose of the Meet and Greet is to reconnect with 1967 graduates and to obtain any names and addresses of 1967 alumni who are not in the database.
● We will ask them if they may know about the whereabouts of other 1967 graduates so we can invite them as well to the 2027 60+ Reunion.
● We hope, in the future, we can continue to have these get-togethers to further connect with the 1967 graduates.

Hall of Fame: M. Sibbio

● M.Sibbio stated there are four (4) potential candidates who have been submitted for review for the HOF induction.
● Conversation about the number of inductees to be selected for next year and voting procedures was discussed.
● D. Hoff stated that the responsibility of the HOF Committee is to work (ie, screen and interview) and then submit their recommendations to the board for final selection and approvals.

Memberships: M. Anderson

● M. Anderson stated that we received two (2) memberships at the 60+ Reunion – one (1) annual and one (1) lifetime membership for a total of $170.00, which gives us a total of $600 for the year.
● Discussion of having other “Meet and Greets” to invite alumni to inform them of the Association’s purpose, recruitment of membership, available board positions, and volunteers for events. The Reservoir Park and The President’s Lounge were some possible venues mentioned for mini-events.
● M. Sibbio stated she would help with any recruitment. M. Sibbio and K. Larson, from the 1976 class, have already been visible and discussing the benefits of the Association at their class reunion.

Annual Golf Outing: L. Bond/K.Larson

● L. Bond stated that as of this date they have 76 out of 80 currently signed up for the golf outing on Saturday, August 22, 2026 at Mayfair Country Club.
● We are not permitted to sell beverages anymore at the golf course. We will be giving $13.50 gift cards/cart to the golfers so they can purchase the beverages at the course.
● Discussion occurred about options for next year’s golf outing.

Executive Session: Recruitment, Membership, Board Positions, Future Planning
● Executive Session began at 1:55 pm and ended at 2:10 p.m.

● In the September board meeting, the board needs to vote on location and time for future meetings.
● Next month’s board meeting will be held at the Goodyear Heights Library on Wednesday, September 2, 2026 @ Noon for our board meeting.

The general meeting was adjourned at 2:15 p.m.
