Board Minutes – Wednesday, September 3, 2026

Absent: Michelle Anderson, Rochelle Henderson, Sharon Kerechanin, Marcia Martz, Paul Mostyn, Michelle Sibbio
President: M. Oliver called the meeting at 5:05 p.m.
Secretary’s Report: M. Oliver, President, asked for acceptance of August minutes.
● K. Larson so moved and L. Bond seconded, accepting the August minutes as written and submitted.
Treasurer’s Report: L. Bond
● Business Checking: Balance $5,029.14
● Non-Profit Checking: Balance $14,363.23
● Money Market Balance: $47,720.96
● Credit Card Items:
- Off-site storage – $127.00
● Credit Card Balance due 9/14. $127.00 transfer scheduled
● All accounts were reconciled successfully with Quicken.
● L. Bond reported that he has cancelled our Pay Pal account in preference of using Zeffy Payments instead, which better benefits our non-profit.
● Final Report on the John Stanley Memorial Golf Outing in August will be next month once all charges have cleared.
Communications: M. Oliver
● Video presentations from 2026 HOF Inductions by Rosemary Fitzpatrick and her East High students will be posted on website and Facebook.
● M. Oliver met with Janet Weaver, East CLC about upcoming “Community Showcase” (“Honor the East of the Past. Experience the East of the Future.”) is scheduled Friday, October 9th from 4-7:00 p.m. at the school. A financial request of $450 was submitted for support of this event and motion approved; D. Hoff so moved and C. Hayes seconded.
● Tours of the building, including vocational depts (Deca, Hospitality, Culinary, Welding, Automotive, Healthcare, etc.) will be highlighted for this event as well as engagement activities for all alumni with music, food and memorabilia. This is also Homecoming weekend. The Alumni Association has been invited to have a visual presence. We will put up our alumni tent and sell yearbooks.
Reverse Raffle – S. Kerechanin/M. Oliver
• Event is scheduled for Thursday, March 4, 2027 at Guy’s Party Center.
• S. Kerechanin is waiting to hear from Guy’s on potential menu updates.
• Be thinking about unique door prizes for silent auction red bags. Also, volunteers are needed to help at event.
Scholarships: M. Bond
• 7 out of 13 awarded 2026 scholarships have followed through on expectations. Checks mailed to date total $15,500 out of an initial $39,500 awarded. Most of those checks amounted to individual awards of either $3,500 or $2,500.
• One scholarship award of $2,500 was returned to the Alumni Association from Youngstown State University for withdrawal reasons unknown.
60+ Reunion: M. Bond/J. Stanley
• Event is scheduled for Thursday, June 10, 2027 at Guy’s Party Center.
• No further report at this time.
Hall of Fame: M. Sibbio
● M. Sibbio was not present at the meeting.
● Committee member K. Larson shared an estimate of 4-5 potential candidates received for consideration to date.
Memberships: M. Anderson
• No new memberships for the month of August, 2026
• A Meet and Greet Luncheon for 1967 alumni will be held on Wednesday, September 23rd at The New Era Restaurant for the purpose of generating additional local 1967 alumni contacts to participate in the future 2027 60+ Reunion Luncheon. To date, 13 have committed their attendance.
• Alumni, Lawrence Shuler has also reached out to other 1967 graduates, inviting them on Sept..23rd.
• M. Bond will try to provide a brief history on the 60+ Reunion Luncheon beginnings for the group.
Recruitment: M. Oliver
● M. Oliver expressed the desire to use upcoming “Community Showcase” at East to reach out and encourage other alumni to participate. Information will be posted on our wesite and facebook accordingly.
Annual Golf Outing: L.Bond/K.Larson
• Formal financial report next month once all charges have cleared.
• Initial feedback very positive; participants seemed to enjoy.
• Improvement considerations for next year: Divide volunteers into shifts to avoid long periods of waiting and devise ways to check payment for teams registered before start of event.
• Goal is for everyone to be pre-registered. There seems to be a “crunch time” for paying at the beginning before heading onto the course.
Memorabilia Posting to Website: L. Bond/M. Oliver
• L. Bond reported that a new combination lock will replace key lock on the Alumni Association off site storage unit. L. Bond, M. Oliver and K. Larson will have the codes for entry.
• K. Larson/ L. Bond plan to organize and reduce items in storage unit this fall.
• M. Oliver plans to reach out to Tracy Hamilton, class contact for ’87, in regards to purchasing all remaining ’87 yearbooks for $100.
Other/New Business
• M. Oliver will send out schedule for future meetings at East CLC Library beginning in November by Christine Morckel, secretary.
• M. Oliver will check with Janet Weaver about the possibility of an Alumni Board meal at East using Hospitality /Food Service.
• Spirit Wins Nomination for September: Fred and Barb Silvey for their organization and support of the 2026 Annual John Stanley Memorial Golf Outing!
● Next meeting will be Thursday, October 1, 2026 at 5:00 p.m. in the Goodyear Branch Library.
