November Board Meeting Minutes

Minutes:  November 2, 2023

Attending:  Larry Bond, Marsha Bond, Chuck Hayes, David Hoff, Sharon Kerechanin, Ken Larson, Mike Oliver, Janet Stanley

Absent:  Michelle Anderson, Rochelle Henderson, Marcia Martz, Mike Nicholich, John Stanley, Sally Thompson, Walter Noland, Don Young

President M. Oliver called the meeting to order at 6:07 pm.

  • Welcome to new alumni association member, Ken Larson!

October Meeting Minutes

  • C. Hayes moved and S. Kerechanin seconded accepting October minutes as sent.

Treasurer’s Report (L. Bond)

  • Financial Report
    • Beginning Oct Balance – Checking PNC $5,467.59
    • Income – Class of 73 Scholarship Donation $1,685.00
    • Income – Donation to Football Fund $500.00
    • Income – Membership Dues $100.00
    • Expenses – Various $150.70
    • Ending Oct Balance – Checking PNC 7,601.89
    • Beginning Oct Balance – MM PNC $50,264.17
    • Income – Interest $175.25
    • Ending Oct Balance – MM PNC $50,439.42
  • L. Bond reviewed above financial report by category.
  • L. Bond shared that he would be looking into Venmo App for future use.
  • L. Bond sent notes of gratitude to contributors of Golf Outing and Scholarship Fund.

Communications (M. Oliver)

  • M. Oliver reviewed purpose of the monthly “Spirit Wins Award”, posted on our website.
  • Criteria based on four considerations: 1) Alumnus of EHS 2) History of promoting EHS spirit. 3) Positive action to support the school 4) Positive action to support fellow alumni.
  • M. Oliver nominated Chuck Malivuk (Previous Alumni Assn President) to receive the second Spirit Wins Award for November. S. Kerechanin seconded and all were unanimously in favor.
  • L. Bond requested that board members call our free Google # line to keep it activated (234) 738-3279. This number is posted on our official stationery.

Reverse Raffle (Co-Chairs: John Stanley/ S. Kerechanin)

  • Event date, Thursday, March 7, 2024; ticket prices remain the same as last year in spite of $2 per person increase for dinner/bar by Guy’s Party Center.
  • 2024 tickets have been printed by APS for total cost of $20.
  • L. Bond presented envelope distribution system of tracking for ticket accountability developed by M. Bond and L. Bond; General consensus to try this for increased organization.
  • Tickets to be distributed at December meeting.
  • C. Hayes suggested that a previous scholarship recipient speak briefly to emphasize the importance of this fundraising event.

Scholarship (M. Bond)

  • M. Bond shared the revised scholarship application, which appears clearer and better organized. Board was in agreement.
  • M. Bond expressed appreciation to those scholarship committee members who offered helpful suggestions with this revision: M. Anderson, S. Kerechanin and M. Oliver.
  • M. Bond will follow up and supply copies for East CLC office file in preparation for January considerations.

60+ Reunion (J. Stanley/M. Bond)

  • Event is scheduled for Thursday, June 13, 2024 at Guy’s.
  • Monthly planning dates will need to be scheduled with the Tallmadge Library in January to reserve the community room for these meetings.
  • Proposed dates: 3/13, 4/10, 5/8 and 6/5 (June date if needed). All meetings are on Wednesdays from 1-3:00 pm.

Hall of Fame (D. Hoff)

  • Date of 2024 Hof Luncheon is yet to be determined (usually a Thursday in April).
  • Discussion was held on the unusual number and close scoring of the eight current nominees. It was unanimously voted upon that all be inducted for 2024.
  • One nominee was submitted late of the November 1st cut off and will be carried over for the next year consideration.
  • D. Hoff shared that he would be looking to retire from this chair responsibility by 2026. He is looking for someone willing to work closely with him in learning the process for this next year. Please consider.
  • M. Bond acknowledged and thanked David for his many years of selfless service in recognizing worthy alumni in this regard.

Memorabilia (M. Oliver, L. Bond)

  • L. Bond shared that 1998 yearbook is now available on our website.
  • M. Oliver and L. Bond continue to work on accuracy of previous HOF inductees and their accomplishments; a slow, tedious process!
  • Once completed, this update is complete it will replace the current list on the website. Some replacement plaques will have to be ordered due either to damage or inaccuracy.

Other Business

  • M. Bond shared an upcoming opportunity by the Linda Theatre. On November 18th, the theatre will observe their 75th Anniversary by showing a restored version of ’48 “Tap Roots” at 4:00 pm followed by Café ReWind reception at 6:00 pm and then 8:00 pm showing of “Rocky Horror Picture Show (’75).
  • M. Anderson has been trying to contact those at the Linda Theater regarding an EHS Alumni Association fund raiser such as this.

With no further business, a motion was made by C. Hayes and seconded by Ken Larson to adjourn at 7:45 pm. The next EHS Alumni Association Board Meeting will be held 12/7/23 at 6 pm in the East CLC Library.
