MINUTES: NOVEMBER 7, 2024
ATTENDING: Michelle Anderson, Larry Bond, Marsha Bond, Chuck Hayes, Dave Hoff, Sharon Kerechanin, Ken Larson, Marcia Martz, Mike Nickolich, Mike Oliver, Michelle Sibbio, Janet Stanley, Don Young, guest Lawrence Shuler. ABSENT: Rochelle Henderson
PRESIDENT M. OLIVER CALLED MEETING TO ORDER AT 6:08 P.M.
SECRETARY’S REPORT (M. BOND)
C. Hayes moved and S. Kerechanin seconded, the acceptance of October minutes as presented.
TREASURER’S REPORT (L.BOND)
Financial Report – All PNC accounts reconciled on Quicken and Excel 2024 Budget Sheet updated for all expenses and incomes by category.
• Checking Account Beginning Balance: $8,332.99 Ending Balance: $8,919.69. Major Income: $858.00 Donation from Class of 1959. Major Expenses: Football Fund of $350.00
• Money Market Account. Beginning Balance: $47,474.35 Ending Balance: $47,612.87 Major Expenses: No Major Income: $138.52 interest
• L. Bond reported that thank you letters will be sent to contributors of Sally Gill Thompson Memorial Fund. Her obituary was shared with the board.
COMMUNICATIONS (M. OLIVER)
M. Oliver reported that October meeting minutes have been posted on our website.
REVERSE RAFFLE (S. KERECHANIN)
• Date for 2025 Reverse Raffle is set for Thursday, March 6 at Guy’s Party Center.
• S. Kerechanin has been in communication with Guy’s event coordinator, Chris Uhl and the following timeframe (1/2 hour earlier) agreed upon:
5:15 pm Doors Open
5:30-6:30 pm Appetizers/Open Bar
6:40 pm Dinner served
7:30 pm Begin Reverse Raffle
• 2025 ticket cost of $80 was agreed upon.
• It was decided to change grand prize to $2,000 for this year.
• S. Kerechanin emphasized importance of volunteers to help, as well as contributions with prizes.
• L. Bond to have tickets printed for distribution at December board meeting.
SCHOLARSHIP (M. BOND)
• M. Bond shared no formal report for this month.
• M. Bond was asked to briefly explain results of 2024 scholarship awards and process for those newly present.
60+ REUNION UPDATE (M. BOND/J. STANLEY)
• M. Bond reminded that the scheduled date for the 2025 60+ Reunion at Guy’s Party Center is Thursday, June 12.
• M. Bond reported that board member, Janet Stanley, has graciously agreed to help co-chair this committee.
• Once a month committee planning meetings will begin March, 2025 at the Tallmadge Library in the Community Room.
HALL OF FAME (D. HOFF/M. SIBBIO)
• D. Hoff reviewed the athletic beginnings and history of HOF.
• D. Hoff reported that there were 10 nominations for 2025 with 3 additional nominations postponed until next year for consideration.
• Alumni Board nominees excused themselves for this part of meeting.
• After discussion, it was agreed that nominations be limited to 5 for reasonable consideration. The top five nominees chosen to be inducted in the 2025 Hall of Fame: M. Anderson, Samuel Crawford, Dalvin Horton, Donald Hudson, Lyn Smith.
• Discussion followed for the need to update website on the criteria of nominations and have ready to review for next meeting. It was recommended and agreed that deadline date for future nominations be September 1st.
• D. Hoff will schedule the 2025 event at The Venue for a Thursday in April.
MEMBERSHIP (M. ANDERSON)
• M. Anderson reported that for October, there were 3 new memberships; 2 one yr. and 1 ten yr. memberships. In addition, there were 3 increases to Lifetime memberships. That makes a total of 21 memberships this year which are renewals, new members and increases to Lifetime memberships.
• M. Anderson shared that Linda Theatre and Cafe Rewind have received their alcohol permits. Discussion followed with a possible “Meet and Greet” at the Theatre in October, 2025, for a possible nostalgic movie venue. It was also recommended to form a committee for planning consideration.
• M. Anderson will continue to reach out to owner, Scott Summers.
MEMORABILIA (M. OLIVER, L. BOND)
• L. Bond expressed kudos to M. Anderson for efforts in increasing alumni association memberships. We are seeing a definite positive result!
• L. Bond shared recently acquired 1932 Yearbook in excellent condition.
OTHER BUSINESS
• For October “Spirit Wins” Award, M. Oliver nominated the class of 1959 for their reunion donation of $858 to the Akron East Alumni Association!
With no further business, a motion was made by S. Kerechanin and seconded by C. Hayes to adjourn at 7:50 p.m.
