Board Meeting Minutes For October

Akron East High Alumni Association, Inc.

Minutes:  October 2, 2025

Attending:   Michelle Anderson, Larry Bond, Marsha Bond, Chuck Hayes, Kenneth Larson, Marcia Martz, Paul Mostyn, Michael Nickolich, Mike Oliver, Michelle Sibbio, Janet Stanley

Absent:  Rochelle Henderson, David Hoff, Sharon Kerechanin, Don Young

President:  M. Oliver called the meeting to order at 5:10 pm

Secretary’s Report ( M. Oliver, President, asked for acceptance of September minutes)

  • M. Anderson so moved and K. Larson seconded, accepting the September minutes as written and corrected.

Treasurer’s Report (L. Bond)

Financial Report:  All PNC accounts reconciled as of 10/2/25.

  • Non-Profit Checking Account Beginning Balance:  $6,863.80
  • Business Checking Account Balance:  $1,653.43
  • Money Market Balance: $48,421.44
  • Credit Card Balance (due 10/10/25): $474.22
  • Profit from EHS John Stanley Golf Outing is $3,927.  This includes paying for new tent and new banner for total of $225.
  • Funding request by Robotics of $392.00 was presented for 39 team T-shirts to wear at upcoming competitions. Motion was made by J. Stanley with unanimous approval by the Board.
  • Principal, Larissa Brown, presented a funding application of $1,500 to the Board for “Bridging Pathways” event to be held in December at East CLC. Discussion followed and it was decided to consider over this month, then hold vote at next month’s meeting.

Communications (M. Oliver)

  • M. Oliver reported that photographs were posted on our website from the John Stanley Memorial Golf Outing on September 23.
  • M. Oliver reported that the September Board Minutes were also posted on our website.

Reverse Raffle (S. Kerechanin/M. Oliver)

  • 2026 Reverse Raffle at Guy’s Party Center is booked for Thursday, March 5, 2026.
  • There was no formal report for this month’s meeting. 
  • P. Mostyn shared that he had not met yet with S. Kerechanin and Guy’s to discuss possible addition of pork sliders on appetizer buffet.

Scholarships (M. Bond)

  • Because only 7 out of 16 recipients from May 2025 claimed their awards, there is a remaining balance of $25,833.35 in funding available for renewals in January of 2026.  M. Bond will send out letters for those recipients to apply after the first of the year for renewal consideration. 
  • M. Bond reminded Board members that East CLC faculty were informed at their August faculty meeting of our intent moving forward to reduce significantly the number of annual scholarships in favor of greater support for building wide program needs.
  • M. Bond will send email to Dr. Noland, requesting a priority of building needs to be addressed that the Alumni Association might support.

60+ Reunion (M. Bond/J. Stanley)

  • Thursday, June 11, 2026 date has been reserved for next year’s 60+ Reunion event at Guy’s Party Center. 
  • No other report at this time.

Hall of Fame (S. Sibbio)

  • Date of the 2026 Hall of Fame is yet to be determined. Intent is to book for some time in April. Discussion followed on consideration between two possible venues for next year’s event:  Guy’s Party Center and Hibernia Club.  S. Sibbio will pursue further information on those options.   
  • S. Sibbio reported positive feedback from applicants with the newly designed application form. 
  • S. Sibbio shared the deadline for 2026 applications is October 29th.  Nominated alumni to be presented at November board meeting.

Membership ( M. Anderson)

  • M. Anderson reported that there are 13 renewals coming up.  She has sent out personal letters to that regard. 
  • M. Anderson is also trying to update existing memberships to determine those still living, etc.

Recruitment/Akron East Alumni Association Board (M. Martz)

  • We discussed importance of making presence known on social media etc.  M. Martz has tried to encourage B. Falconberry, who manages an online social group, to attend Alumni Board meetings for his ideas and feedback but without success.  J. Stanley has also tried to reach out to him as well. 
  • M. Oliver will extend a personal invitation to him through “Messenger” for our November meeting.

John Stanley Memorial Golf Outing (L. Bond/K. Larson)

  • M. Bond will send note of gratitude to Fred Silvey from the Alumni Association for his leadership on this successful annual event.  

Memorabilia Posting to Website (L. Bond/M. Oliver)

  • K. Larson and L. Bond have been working hard to reorganize East yearbooks currently in off-site storage unit into totes and onto shelving units.  Thank you!

Other Business

  • L. Bond announced the selling of yearbooks and Don Drumm pins/pendants at East CLC Open House (“East Community Showcase”) on Tuesday, October 28th from 3:30-5:30 pm. Tables will be set up outside under our tent on the grass near CLC entrance.  Yearbooks will be sold for $5 and Don Drum jewelry for $35. Please arrive by 3:00 pm.to help with set up.
  • September “Spirit Wins” award will go to Joseph Cotton and Mike Staats (Class of 1969) for their support at this year’s John Stanley Memorial Golf Outing.

With no further business, the motion to adjourn was made by K. Larson and seconded by M. Nickolich. The meeting was adjourned at 6:20 pm.  Next meeting is scheduled for 11/06/2025, 5:00 PM at East CLC Library.
