Akron East High Alumni Association Board Meeting
Thursday, February 5, 2026

Attendance: Michelle Anderson, Larry Bond, Marsha Bond, Chuck Hayes, David Hoff,
Sharon Kerechanin, Ken Larson, Marcia Martz, Paul Mostyn, Mike Nickolich, Mike Oliver
Absent: Rochelle Henderson, Michelle Sibbio, Janet Stanley, Don Young

Board Meeting began at 5:10 p.m.

Treasurer’s Report: L. Bond

● Business Checking: Balance $1,598.55
● Non-Profit Checking: Balance $6,239.80
● Money Market Balance: $44,775.21
● Credit Card Items: 2 charges (Storage and Don Drumm Key Chains)
● Credit Card Balance Due 02/14/26. $540.00 Transfer scheduled
● All accounts were reconciled successfully. New YTD Report generated for Jan 2026.
● One (1) request for funding – DECA Hospitality and Tourism Group requested $200 for students to go to competition.
● C. Hayes moved that we approve the request for $200 for DECA and D.Hoff seconded the motion. All approved the fund request.
● L. Bond will discuss Reverse Raffle ticket purchases along with the Reverse Raffle funds received next board meeting after the March 5th Reverse Raffle

Communication: M. Oliver

● M. Oliver posted the January Minutes on January 23, 2026
● In the Events schedule on the website, posted Reverse Raffle date of March 5, 2026
● Reverse Raffle poster has been posted on Facebook and website
● P.Mostyn contacted 1980 officers to see if there was any interest in joining the alumni association. He has not heard back from anyone at this time.
● We are still looking for a 2018 Akron East Yearbook (if anyone has one to loan us so we can post in on the website)

Reverse Raffle: S.Kerechanin

● S. Kerechanin has received many gift cards that will be in the silent auction bags at the Reverse Raffle.
● Any volunteers helping with set-up for Reverse Raffle are requested to be at Guy’s Party Center on Wednesday, March 4th at 10:30 a.m.
● S. Kerechanin explained the new process of selling the prize tickets. The tickets will be on 3×5 cards with 5 tickets plus a free ticket to be used for the silent auction red bags/bags, the Cash Prize (50/50), and Lucky 13.. The number that is on the Full Raffle ($80) or Dinner Ticket ($50) will be the guest’s number for the night. Any tickets they purchase for those prizes will be that same number.
● The board had discussions of the Lucky 13 ticket process.
● A Reverse Raffle committee meeting will be held prior to March 5 to discuss the new ticket process .
● S. Kerechanin explained she will have two (2) shifts of volunteers. The volunteers will have 45-50 minutes to eat.
● A Reverse Raffle Meeting will have a recap meeting after March 5th event to discuss the results of this fundraiser.
● L.Bond is going to give Coach Hayes a number of envelopes of Reverse Raffle tickets for him to sell to East staff and others.
● We will have donation cups on each table if anyone wants to donate to the alumni association for East programs.

Scholarships: M. Bond

● M. Bond met with Michael Lamp, East (CLC) Media Specialist/ Librarian on Feb 1. They made a recorded announcement using a teleprompter on this year’s 2026 alumni scholarship expectations and timetables. The recording will be shared with all East faculty/staff online. All Faculty will be informed at the same time.
● All nominations must be into M. Bond by March 31, 2026. The scholarship committee will rank the candidates during the month of April and then present findings for board approval/vote at the May Meeting.
● Scholarship recipients will then be announced at the May Senior Assembly at the end of May.
● Those agreeing to serve again on the scholarship committee are: M. Anderson, M.Bond, K. Larson, M. Nickolich and M. Oliver.

60+ Reunion: M. Bond and J. Stanley

● The 2026 60+ Reunion is scheduled for Thursday, June 11, 2026 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 pm at Guy’s Party Center.
● Class of ‘66 is the incoming year. Four (4) ‘66 representatives have volunteered to help on the 60+ Reunion Committee. Generally, there can be up to 20-25 total representatives from all classes going back to the early ‘50’s.
● Committee meetings will begin on Wednesday, March 11, 1-3:00 pm; Wednesday, April 8, 1- 4:00 p.m. (This meeting is extended due to the mass mailing that the committee will be processing on that day) and a meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, May 13, 1-3 p.m.
● The meetings will now be held at the Community Room at the Goodyear Branch Library on Goodyear Blvd. due to renovations at the Tallmadge Library.
● M. Bondo and J.Stanley will meet with Christine at Guy’s to set guidelines, menu, cost and decorations before the first March 11th meeting.
● Photographer Denise Zitzmann has verbally committed to the class photography for this event again.

HALL OF FAME: M. Sibbio

● K. Larson gave a report in M. Sibbio’s absence.
● The Hall of Fame Ceremony will be held on Thursday, April 16, 2026 at Guy’s Party Center from 5:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
● Mrs. Fitzgerald from East will be available for videotaping.
● Top Mac from East needs to be contacted about the JROTC attending the ceremony
● The cost for the dinner is $40.00
● M. Oliver requested the Hall of Fame Committee to provide information by the March board meeting of the Hall of Fame Ceremony format and details pertaining to the Hall of Fame Ceremony,

Membership: M. Anderson

● We received one (1) new membership in January 2026 for a 2-year membership.

Recruitment/Membership: M. Oliver

● M. Oliver has contacted officers of classes 1980-1985 but has no response.
● He is going to expand the years from 1985-2000 to see if he can find the class officers, inform them of the benefits of the alumni association, and to encourage them or their classmates, about possible joining the alumni association.
● He found that in the mid-1990’s there were no class officers anymore listed n the yearbooks.
● He is also looking at the Manhood and Womanhood Award winners in the years 1985-2000 to contact them for their possible interest in the alumni association.
● M. Anderson and M.Oliver will be available to attend any upcoming class reunions in 2026.
● If anyone is aware of class reunions in 2026 or even luncheons or dinners that are held on a regular basis with their classmates, please inform the alumni association through the website or facebook. A board member would be happy to attend one to inform classmates about the alumni association,
● The board is seeking other ideas to obtain new members and former classmates to join the board.
● K.Larson invited M.Oliver to attend the 1976 Reunion this year to discuss the alumni association.
● Discussed posting photographs of our events to the website.

Golf Outing: L. Bond and K. Larson

● No report at this time for the 2026 Golf Outing.
● More information will be coming closer to the summer

Memorabilia Posting to the Website: L. Bond

● L. Bond found scrapbooks of East athletic events that were originally owned by John Stanley, former board member and a founding father of the Akon East HIgh Alumni Association.
● Yearbooks 2021 and 2022 are in the process of being digitized for the alumni association gallery on the website.

New Business: L. Bond

● No Spirit Award announced for the month of January 2026.

Next board meeting will be Thursday, March 12, 2026 in the East CLC Library at 5:00 p.m.

With no further business, a motion was made by M. Martz and seconded by S.Kerechanin to adjourn the meeting at 6:30 p.m.
