Akron East High Alumni Association Board Minutes

Thursday, January 8, 2026

Attendance:  Michelle Anderson, Larry Bond, Chuck Hayes,  David Hoff, Sharon Kerechanin, Ken Larson, Paul Mostyn, Mike Oliver, Janet Stanley

Absent:  Marsha Bond, Rochelle Henderson, Marcia Martz, Mike Nickolich, Michelle Sibbio,  Don Young

Board Meeting began at 5:10 p.m.

Minutes of December 11, 2025:  David Hoff moved and seconded by Ken Larson accepting the December minutes as presented.

Treasurer’s Report:  L. Bond

  • Business Checking;   Balance – $1,524.55
  • Non-Profit Checking – Balance – $3,066.66
  • Deposit $60 from Sharon Kerechanin for sale of two (2) Dragon Key Chains
  • Three (3) scholarship renewal checks for $3,000 total
  • Money Market Balance – $44,711.42
  • Credit Card Items:  No charges for this statement.  Credit Card Balance :$166.86 Due 1/14/2026 – transfer scheduled
  • Purchased one (1) floral arrangement for Mike Oliver’s smother funeral $60.39
  • All accounts were successfully reconciled

Communications Committee:  M. Oliver

  • Received a pdf file for the 1986 yearbook to be transferred to our website.

We are still looking for the 2018 yearbook so  it can be put on the website.

  • Received information from M. Sibbio that all of the Hall of Fame inductees have accepted.
  • Mark Dingle will be at the Reverse Raffle to have the 360 Photo booth/video available to attendees who want to obtain a photo/video.
  • The Akron East High Alumni Association Board Meetings have been scheduled through the Akron East office to be held on Thursdays through the 2026 spring/fall/winter months.
  • Posted on the website the December 2025 Akron East High Alumni Board Minutes.

Reverse Raffle:  S.Kerechanin

  • The Reverse Raffle is on Thursday, March 5, 2026 at Guys Party Center from 5:15 p.m.- 9:00 p.m.
  • Set-up for the Reverse Raffle is on Wednesday, March 4, 2026 at Guys from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30p.m..
  • There is a possibility that one class may be having their class reunion at the Reverse Raffle.  S.Kerechanin will confirm which class will be attending to celebrate their reunion.
  • Class reunions are welcome and encouraged to come to this event and any other Akron East High Alumni Association events to have their class reunion.  It is affordable and a great venue to celebrate with classmates.
  • S.Kerechanin distributed the Reverse Raffle Volunteer schedule and explained the process.  She could still use a 3-4 more volunteers,
  • L. Bond distributed the RR tickets and explained the process to the board. 
  • M.Oliver and L. Bond will make a Reverse Raffle flyer and post it on the website and Facebook.

Scholarships:  M. Bond

  • L. Bond read the summary of 2025 on the scholarships recipients in M. Bond’s absence 
  • Eight (8) new scholarships for $20,500
  • Four (4) renewals for $8,000
  • TOTAL – $28,500
  • M. Bond will attend the East CLC Faculty meeting on January 20, 2026 to introduce the process and timeframe of alumni association scholarship nominations for 2026. Mathew Futch is East CLC liaison for Project GRAD and we appreciate his partnership in this regard.

60+ Reunion:  M. Bond

  • L. Bond read the report in M, Bond’s absence.
  • The 60+ Reunion Committee has been notified through email of the scheduled 2026 luncheon event date of Thursday, June 11, 2026 at Guy’s Party Center.
  • The first planning session date of Wednesday, March 11 from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. has been scheduled and dates for following months at Goodyear Library Community Room on Goodyear Blvd will be accordingly.  This year’s incoming class is 1966.

Hall of Fame:  M. Sibbio

  • M. Oliver read a HOF report in M. Sibbio’s absence. 
  • The inductees’ names will not be announced until the official letters are sent to the inductees in January.
  • This year, the Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be a dinner held at Guy’s Party Center on Thursday, April 16, 2026 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
  • Tickets are $40.00 each.
  • Top Mac, head of the JROTC at East, will have the Junior ROTC from East CLC to present arms.
  • Ms.  Fitzgerald, teacher at East CLC, will make the video of the inductees so the event will be available online and to be viewed by the East students on the East CLC televisions.

Memberships:  M. Anderson

  • M. Anderson reported there were no new memberships.
  • She reported that she will begin to look at the memberships that will be up for renewal in 2026 and send them letters.

Recruitment:  M.Oliver

  • M. Oliver stated that he has the list of class officers from 1977-1990 that the committee prepared.   He has contacted eleven (11) through Facebook, but has not received any response. He will continue to contact them.
  • P. Mostyn asked for the 1980 class officers and he will contact them.

Golf Outing:  – L. Bond/K.Larson

  • No report at this time for the 2026 Golf Outing.

Memorabilia Posting to the Website:  L. Bond

  • As stated in the Communication section, we are still seeking the 1986 and 2018 yearbooks from anyone who may have one to loan to us, so they can be posted on our website.
  • L. Bond has posted 2019 on the website and that is the last one that we have in our possession.
  • The yearbook 2023 is in digital form and is on a flash drive.  Larry will be transferring this yearbook to our website.
  • We have had requests for yearbooks on Facebook, but they don’t leave an email or phone numbers on how to contact them to send them the yearbook.
  • M.Oliver will post again on the website that we are seeking the 2018 yearbook.

Other Business

  • M. Oliver received a request for money for an East High 2016 reunion.  He wrote back to the person who requested funds from the alumni association and informed them that our mission is to provide support to the current East High (CLC) for school programs and scholarships. 
  • He told the person requesting funds that we can provide banners to them.
  • K.Larson will contact Dr. Noland and Coach Hayes at East to see what the alumni could do to help improving the athletic field,

Next board meeting will be Thursday, February 5, 2026 in the East CLC Library at 5:00 p.m.

With no further business, a motion was made by S. Kerechanin and seconded by P. Mostyn to adjourn the meeting at 6:05 p.m.
