Board Meeting Minutes For November

Akron East High Alumni Association, Inc.

Minutes:  November 6, 2025

Attending:   Michelle Anderson, Larry Bond, Marsha Bond, Sam Dudich, Robert Falconbery, Chuck Hayes, Dave Hoff, Sharon Kerechanin, Kenneth Larson, Paul Mostyn, Mike Oliver, Janet Stanley

Absent:  Rochelle Henderson, Mike Nickolich, Marcia Martz, Shelly Sibbio, Don Young

President:  M. Oliver called the meeting to order at 6:10 pm

Secretary’s Report ( M. Oliver, President, asked for acceptance of October minutes)

  • C. Hayes so moved and M. Anderson seconded, accepting the October minutes as written and submitted.

Treasurer’s Report (L. Bond)

Financial Report:  All PNC accounts reconciled as of 11/6/25.

  • Non-Profit Checking Account Beginning Balance:  $2000.78
  • Business Checking Account Balance:  $1,436.55
  • Money Market Balance: $54,036.77
  • Credit Card Balance (due 11/11/25): $136.01 – Transfer scheduled.
  • Funding request by Freshman Academy Principal Brown was presented for approval. A request of $1,500 for the annual “Bridging Pathways’ event to be held in December at East CLC was submitted. This is a community service holiday event totally planned and manned by East student volunteers on a Saturday.  Total cost of event is $3,500. (Previously Ms. Brown was able to use another grant, that was recently rescinded by the federal government.)  M. Bond moved that we support this endeavor.  P. Mostyn seconded, accepting the payment of $1,500.  Vote was 11 to 1 in favor and motion passed.

Communications (M. Oliver)

  • M. Oliver posted Spirit Award from October 4th meeting on website.
  • M. Oliver also reported that the October Board Minutes, along with the East CLC sports team schedules were posted on our website.
  • Attendee, R. Falconbery ’73 shared some history about his Alumni Page on Facebook which has approximately 7,000 members after 25 years. 

Reverse Raffle (S. Kerechanin/M. Oliver)

  • 2026 Reverse Raffle at Guy’s Party Center is booked for Thursday, March 5, 2026
  • S. Kerechanin reported that the menu for this event has been established and shared with members.  The 2026 event will highlight a new Hors d’oeurve menu from 5:30-7:00pm, consisting of meat/cheese display, vegetable platter/dip, caprese kabobs, fruit bowl, pork sliders, Italian sausage/peppers and chicken tenders with separate dessert table as well as open bar.
  • S. Kerechanin shared the need of volunteers for respective shifts. 

Scholarships (M. Bond)

  • In December, M. Bond will send out letters to this year’s 2025 scholarship recipients to apply for renewal consideration. There remains $25,833.35 in funding available.  The Alumni Association has typically granted $1,000 per student for individual renewals within the school year.
  • M. Bond was recently contacted by a former 2023 recipient at The University of Akron for renewal consideration if possible.  M. Bond moved that the Board consider the request to fund a $1,000 renewal for this student as well, who included proof of enrollment and good grades. Brief discussion followed and approval accepted.

60+ Reunion (M. Bond/J. Stanley)

  • Thursday, June 11, 2026 date has been reserved for next year’s 60+ Reunion event at Guy’s Party Center. 
  • J. Stanley confirmed that the Tallmadge Library Community Room will not be available for 60+ Reunion Committee planning meetings due to renovation in the spring.
  • M. Bond and J. Stanley will investigate other venues to consider. The Community Center, next to the library, may be a consideration.  This committee, typically 20-25 members, meets monthly from March thru May to plan for the June event.

Hall of Fame (S. Sibbio)

  • Date of the 2026 Hall of Fame is yet to be determined. Intent is to book for some time in April with Guys Party Center, possibly the 16th or 23rd. Luncheon or dinner to be decided.  Board members are expected to attend and pay for this event.
  • K. Larsen reported for S. Sibbio, who was absent.
  • K. Larsen shared the names of 7 proposed 2026 inductees. This year’s small group committee helped to process and determine recipients.  Committee members lauded the efforts of Chair, S. Sibbio and her hard work in detailing work on each respective candidate.

Membership ( M. Anderson)

  • M. Anderson reported that she has sent out letters, a total of 14 new and/or renewals for total of $920 to date this year.
  • M. Anderson is also trying to update existing memberships to determine those still living, etc.

Note:  At this meeting point, committee members were adjourned to the gym for East ROTC Ceremonial Inductions from 6:04-6:25 pm.

Recruitment/Akron East Alumni Association Board (M. Martz)

  • There was no formal report, as M. Martz was not present. 
  • It has been requested that recruitment be put under auspices of membership for the purpose of reaching out to new recruits.

Memorabilia Posting to Website (L. Bond/M. Oliver)

  • K. Larson, M. Oliver and L. Bond continue to work hard in organizing East yearbooks at off-site storage unit and in inventory.  Thank you!
  • L. Bond reported that scanning of yearbooks is nearing completion with these years remaining to do: 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2019, 2020 with 2018 and 1986 missing.

Other Business

  • It was announced that Michelle Anderson has graciously agreed to accept the officer position of secretary.  She will be officially installed at the December Board Meeting.
  • L. Bond announced the selling of yearbooks and Don Drumm pins/pendants at East CLC Open House (“East Community Showcase”) on Tuesday, October 28th from 3:30-5:30 pm. was a success and did much to increase the alumni community presence.  Tables were set up outside under our tent on the grass near CLC entrance.  Yearbooks were sold for $5 and Don Drum jewelry for $35.
  • L. Bond introduced a preliminary design of Akron East Alumni Association Business Cards for consideration to be duplicated by APS. 
  • M. Bond initiated motion for the purchase of new inventory batch of 50 Don Drumm pins/pendants for 2026 event fundraising.  M. Anderson seconded and motion was passed unanimously.
  • November “Spirit Wins” award goes to Canda Gaone Morrison ’73 for her faithful spirit and support of East through the years!

With no further business, the motion to adjourn was made by C. Hayes and seconded by K. Larsen. The meeting was adjourned at 6:45 pm.  Next meeting is scheduled for 12/11/2025, 5:00 PM at East CLC Library.
