Minutes: September 4, 2025

President: M. Oliver called the meeting to order at 5:12 pm
Secretary’s Report ( M. Oliver, President, asked for acceptance of August minutes)
- K. Larson so moved and C. Hayes seconded accepting the August minutes as written.
Installation of New Board Member (President, Mike Oliver)
- M. Oliver opened meeting with the installation of new member, Paul Mostyn, who will be Trustee #1.
Treasurer’s Report (L. Bond)
Financial Report: All PNC accounts reconciled.
- Checking Account Beginning Balance: $10,428.09
- Business Checking Account Balance: $1,659.43
- Money Market Beginning Balance: $48,306.42
- Credit Card Balance: $407.06
Major Expenses
- Estimated profit from EHS John Stanley Golf Outing is $4,000. Final report will be next month after all checks clear. Payment for new tent included approx. $180 and new banner $40.
- Purchased seven 4-tier storage racks for off-site storage to place yearbooks on and better organize site for storing event “Totes” containing appropriate event items (e.g. Reverse Raffle, 60+, HOF etc.) Approximate cost $250.
Communications (M. Oliver)
- M. Oliver reported that East CLC secretary, Christine Morckel confirmed our meeting site in the library for the next six months on the first Thursday. Time was moved to 5:00 pm.
- M. Oliver updated onto website all events for the year, as well as the posting of board meeting minutes.
- There were no nominations for September “Spirit Wins” recognition.
Reverse Raffle (S. Kerechanin/M. Oliver)
- 2026 Reverse Raffle at Guy’s Party Center is booked for Thursday, March 5, 2026.
- S. Kerechanin met with Chris at Guy’s and reported on various options for “Heavy Hors d’oeuvre Buffet” for 2026 event. The goal is for an aura of a Cocktail Party vs. Banquet Dinner. Bar option is to remain the same.
- Discussion followed as to additional banquet foods to possibly consider as well.
- M. Oliver asked new board member P. Mostyn with his culinary experience to help with possible menu items to suggest for this event. Paul graciously agreed.
Scholarships (M. Bond)
- To date, only 7 out of 16 recipients from May 2025, have claimed their awards. As a result, there are funds remaining for renewals.
- M. Bond and L. Bond were well received at EHS Faculty Meeting on August 20th. The Alumni Association was asked to share a brief presentation about scholarships and other programs that are supported throughout the school year, as there are many new faculty members. M. Bond shared the Board’s recent decision at July’s meeting to reduce number of annual scholarships, in favor of greater support for building wide program needs.
- The Alumni Association provided bottled water/snacks again to faculty for their East CLC “Open House”, as this is always a long day for them. It involved approximately 130 faculty members. At our August Board meeting, we voted to allow $100 for that purpose but total amount spent was $67. (Photo was shared with the Board)
60+ Reunion (M. Bond/J. Stanley)
- Thursday, June 11, 2026 date has been reserved for next year’s 60+ Reunion event at Guy’s Party Center.
- M. Bond shared recent letter of gratitude from an alumnus unable to attend this year’s event but who appreciated the class photo she had received.
Hall of Fame (S. Sibbio)
- Date for the 2026 Hall of Fame is yet to be determined. Intent is to book for April at The Venue. Suggested considerations for 2026 would be a larger banquet room with less distractions.
- S. Sibbio spent great lengths in explaining the design and presentation of a new revised nomination form for 2026. It is more specific of expectations in the nomination process, as well as the attention of candidate accomplishments.
- HOF committee intends to create a gallery of past inductees to share on Webpage.
- S. Sibbio acknowledged D. Hoff’s format of listing inductees and their accomplishments.
- S. Sibbio reported that she is working on obtaining the former 2025 induction video on thumb drive if wanted from East CLC.
Membership ( M. Anderson)
- No formal report from M. Anderson this month.
Recruitment/Akron East Alumni Association Board (M. Martz)
- It was previously decided to post information on all available sites (our alumni website, Classmates and Facebook social group etc.) for information on joining the Akron East Alumni Association Board.
- We discussed importance of making presence known monthly on social media. M. Martz would like to encourage Falconberry, who manages an online social group, to attend Alumni Board meetings for his ideas and feedback.
- Members were encouraged to contact their respective class years whenever possible.
C. Hayes reported that he has been in touch with class of ’72 and M. Oliver with class of ’77 respectively for that purpose.
- It was agreed that “Business Card” for joining the Alumni Association Board and colorful brochures to have for future events would be helpful.
John Stanley Memorial Golf Outing (L. Bond/K. Larson)
- Photos of this year’s outing on Saturday, August 23rd at Mayfair Country Club were shared. L. Bond thanked everyone for their help and support, especially Fred Silvey who is a major force in making this event happen every year.
- L. Bond shared the expectation of having raised approximately $4,000. However, until all checks are in, final financial report will be in October.
- L. Bond reported positive feedback for our new registration tent and banner.
Memorabilia Posting to Website (L. Bond/M. Oliver)
- Golf Outing photos and East CLC Faculty photos were posted on website.
- L. Bond posted the 2006 yearbook to the website.
- K. Larson and L. Bond have been working hard to reorganize East yearbooks currently in storage unit into totes and onto shelving units. These yearbooks are to be sold for $5 each in the future.
Other Business
- L. Bond presented the possibility of selling yearbooks at East CLC Open House on October 28th beginning at 3:00 pm. as well as our Don Drumm Dragon pins. Will further consider at October meeting.
- C. Hayes presented fundraising idea of the sale of bricks from Goodyear Jr. High demolition and will look into.
- No nominations for August “Spirit Wins” were brought forth.
With no further business, M. Oliver adjourned the meeting at 6:45 pm. Next meeting is scheduled for 10/02/2025, 5:00 PM at East CLC Library.
