Board Meeting Minutes: May 1, 2025
Attendance: Michelle Anderson. Larry Bond, Marsha Bond, Chuck Hayes, David Hoff, Sharon Kerechanin; Ken Larson, Marchia Martz, Mike Nikolich, Mike Oliver, Paul Mostyn (Guest)
Absent: Rochelle Henderson, Michelle Sibbio, Janet Stanley, Don Young
Minutes of April 3, 2025: Chuck Hayes moved and seconded by David Hoff, accepting the April minutes as presented.
Treasurer’s Report: L. Bond
- No financial report for the month of April since it is only the first of the month and has not received banking information yet. L. Bond will have an updated report for the May meeting.
- The cost of 50 Don Drumm Akron East High pins were $1,050 pins. Cost was $21.00 per pin and we will sell them for $35.00 for a $14.00 profit to benefit scholarships or other East High teams/activities.
- We paid $1,451 paid for the Hall of Fame Ceremony lunch at the Venue. Bill for Plaques, and Carmen Studio photos not received yet. Final report not possible yet.
- $5000 donation from L. Bond and M. Bond for scholarships
- Eliminated debit card from PNC; obtained a business credit card with 3% buy back rewards and no annual fee
- Zeffy worked out well at the Hall of Fame Ceremony and will continue to use it for other events.
- Our tax status has changed in 2024 so we are considering having an accountant do the taxes for the association.
Scholarships: M. Bond
- In 2024, we awarded $39,000 to 15 seniors, but only eleven (11) recipients followed through on stated expectations in order to claim their award.
- In 2025, we have $43,000 in scholarship fund. (Note: This total can typically increase as we progress through the summer with donations from alumni at 60+ Reunion in June and the Alumni Golf Outing in August).
- Twenty-One (21) seniors applied for scholarship aid in 2025. Each applicant was ranked by the scholarship committee.(M. Anderson, K. Larson, M. Nickolich, M. Oliver, M. Bond.)
- The Board discussed the applicants’ scores and voted to award 16 students with scholarships for a total of $39,500. The motion to accept the number of students and amount of scholarship aid was made by D. Hoff and seconded by S. Kerechanin, and voted in favor by the board.
- The East High Senior Recognition Ceremony will be on Wed.May 28th at 8:30 a.m. at the high school auditorium.
- The students will receive an official letter at the Ceremony with the amount of the award and instructions on what the expectations are to claim the award.

Reverse Raffle: S.Kerechanin
- S. Kerechanin contacted Guys Party Center to inquire about costs for next year’s Reverse Raffle if we would just do heavy hors d’oeuvres. The cost would be the same as the dinner we usually have done in the past. .
- S. Kerechanin will continue to discuss options with the banguet manager at Guy’s Party Center and keep the board informed.
- S. Kerechanin also discussed the costs for sideboards, Lucky 13 and contacting golf country clubs to obtain gift cards.
60+ Reunion: M. Bond
- M. Bond stated that $1,750 invitations were mailed on April 28, 2025. Received 12 invitations for the luncheon to date. Only those classes graduated 60 or more years ago are eligible to attend.
- Class of ‘65 is the new class coming to the event. This year’s theme is “Through the Years”.
- The event is at Guy’s Party Center South Ballroom on Thursday, June 12th from 11:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Cost is $35.00 per person. Cut off is the first 400 to register.
- Next scheduled committee meeting is on Wednesday, May 14th at 1:00 p.m. in the community room of Tallmadge Library,Agenda is to organize the program to be ready for printing by APS and job assignment sign-ups.
Memberships: M. Anderson
- Two (2) one-year renewals occurred in April.
- Total of $630 with 10 renewal/new memberships for 2025.
Linda Theater Alumni Movie FunNight- M. Anderson
- No new information at this time.
- M. Anderson will contact Scott Summers to schedule a meeting in June to discuss details and expectations for October 3rd event at the Linda Theater.
- M. Anderson would like to have a committee of at least 3 board members to work on the Linda Theater event.
- Planning meeting will be scheduled prior to meeting with S. Sommers
- Linda Theater Alumni Night will be held on October 3, 2025 at the Linda Theater at 7:00 pm. Price of admission is 10.00
- More details will follow in the next few months.
Memorabilia Posting to Website: L. Bond/M.Oliver
- L. Bond has activated 1995 and 1996 yearbooks on the alumni association website
- 1997 is the last 1990’s yearbook that he has to post on the website
Other Business:
- Ken Larson was nominated for the “Spirit Wins” Oriental of the Month, for his donation of pies to the Hall of Fame Ceremony. Sharon Kerechanin made the motion to approve K. Larson to be chosen, Chuck Hayes seconded the motion and all voted in favor.
