AKRON EAST HIGH ALUMNI ASSOCIATION, INC.
MINUTES: December 5, 2024
ATTENDING: Larry Bond, Marsha Bond, Dave Hoff, Sharon Kerechanin, Ken Larson, Mike Oliver, Michelle Sibbio, guest faculty member Top Mac
ABSENT: Michelle Anderson, Marcia Gantz, Rochelle Henderson, Janet Stanley
President M. Oliver called the meeting to order at 6:10 p.m.
- Faculty member, Top Mac was welcomed and he expressed appreciation for all the ways that the Alumni Association has supported the Junior ROTC program at East CLC. Top Mac also shared upcoming events and dates for the ROTC.
SECRETARY’S REPORT (M. BOND)
L. Bond moved and K. Larson seconded, the acceptance of November minutes with corrections.
TREASURER’S REPORT (L.BOND)
Financial Report – All PNC accounts reconciled on Quicken and Excel 2024 Budget Sheet updated for all expenses and incomes by category.
- Checking Account Beginning Balance: $8,919.69 Final Balance: $7,992.20 Income: $895.00 (’59 Class Donation) Major Expenses: $1,822.49
- Money Market Account. Beginning Balance: $47,612.87 Final Balance: $47,737.49 Major Expenses: None Major Income: $124.62 interest
- Balance in scholarship fund: $28,051.64
COMMUNICATIONS (M. OLIVER)
- M. Oliver posted Spirit Award to Class of ’59 on Facebook.
- M. Oliver reported that November meeting minutes were posted online, as well.
REVERSE RAFFLE (S. KERECHANIN)
- Date for 2025 Reverse Raffle is set for Thursday, March 6 at Guy’s Party Center.
- S. Kerechanin reported that Sunshine Cupcakes will contribute to the 2025 event.
- S. Kerechanin shared that additional contacts to help are still needed.
- S. Kerechanin is working on gift baskets; others have contributed as well.
- S. Kerechanin requested that a financial charge system be in place for the event. Treasurer, L. Bond will look into this.
- L. Bond gave S. Kerechanin info cards from last year’s ticket stubs to make a master spread sheet for 2025 contacts. M. Oliver will enter names, and contact info into an Excel spreadsheet for those future references.
- L. Bond passed out 2025 tickets for board members to begin selling.
SCHOLARSHIP (M. BOND)
- M. Bond reported that two former student recipients have already reached out for possible scholarship renewal consideration in 2025.
- M. Bond requested agreement on upcoming renewal grants based on funding availability. A motion was made by D. Hoff and seconded by K. Larson to that regard.
- M. Bond read poignant email of gratitude from a most recent scholarship recipient. M. Bond will share with faculty at instruction improvement day on January 31, 2025. At that time, she will speak with faculty about importance of their nominations for the year and protocol.
- M. Bond shared correction that 11 out of 15 of 2024 scholarship recipients fulfilled requirements and claimed their monetary awards.
60+ REUNION UPDATE (M. BOND AND J. STANLEY)
- Scheduled date for the 2025 60+ Reunion at Guy’s Party Center is Thursday, June 12.
- M. Bond reported that monthly planning meetings will begin in March, 2025. Those will be scheduled in January in order to secure the community room with the Talmadge Library.
HALL OF FAME (S. SIBBIO AND D. HOFF)
- D. Hoff reported date of 2025 HOF to be Thursday, April 24th at The Venue.
- S. Sibbio shared revisions on HOF letter to send out soon. S. Sibbio and D. Hoff will meet to fine tune it.
- S. Sibbio reported on possibility of using Eventbright.com as means to register and make payments online for event.
- S. Sibbio reported intent to post HOF protocol and revised nomination forms online to website.
MEMBERSHIP (M. ANDERSON)
- M. Anderson emailed ideas to board members for a potential Linda Theater Meet and Greet.
- M. Anderson and M. Oliver will meet with Scott Summers, Linda Theatre owner, on December 18th to explore the feasibility of such an event.
- In meantime, M. Anderson asked board members to review ideas presented in the email and let her know of further thoughts or input before meeting with Scott.
MEMORABILIA (M. OLIVER, L. BOND)
- L. Bond reported that monthly insurance for the Alumni Association off-storage site may soon be required. At this time, not sure of what that additional monthly fee might be.
OTHER BUSINESS
- S. Sibbio requested means to verify active members for future mailings.
- There were no December nominations for “Spirit Wins” award.
With no further business, a motion was made by D. Hoff and seconded by S. Kerechanin to adjourn at 7:37 p.m.
